This normally happens when SATA mode is not correctly configured in BIOS. To configure the SATA mode you need to enter the BIOS by tapping the Del key during system POST. In BIOS go to the Configuration tab and set the SATA mode to AHCI if you are running Wondows7 or XP PRO. Set it to COMPATIBLE if you run Windows XP Home Edition.
