Updating the firmware on the Intel Reader

This guide will teach you how to download and install the newest software for the Intel Reader. This is an upgrade from version 1.00 to version 1.01. Some changes you can expect to see from this update are the ability touse RFB&D (Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic) e-books, new enhanced audio and visual navigation tools, the ability to go to a specific heading in an e-book, enhanced display theme choices, and the capability to store multi-volume books. Once you have updated to the version 1.01, you will not be able to downgrade to any previous version.

Installation:

To install the update, there are 2 methods you can use.If youhave a USB drive,extract thefile from the .zip file you downloaded earlier, and put it on the USB drive. Connect the USB drive to the Intel Reader, and the Intel Reader will display a box asking you it you want to apply the new software version. Select Yes, Apply Update on the prompt and press OK. Do not remove the USB drive until the update has completed. The process will take 5-10 minutes to complete, and restart a few times. When the home menu appears again after 5-10 minutes, it is safe to remove the USB drive.

If you do not have a USB drive,first connect your Intel Reader to your computer with a USB to mini-USBcable. On the computer, the Intel Reader window appears. Select the option to view files, and press OK. Extract the file from the zip file you downloaded earlier, and copy it to the Intel Reader. When copying is complete, disconnect the cable from your Reader and the computer. After it is disconnected, the Intel Reader will prompt you to apply the update. Select Yes, Apply Update on the prompt and press OK.The process will take 5-10 minutes to complete, and restart a few times.

To check to see which version of the firmware you currently have, select the Help option from the home menu, and press OK. Next, select About and press OK. The version of the software will appear on the first line of the Intel Reader screen.
